Eastern wishes
About This Spot
Eastern Wishes greets you like a familiar neighborhood treasure tucked away in the lively heart of Bayan Baru. As you step inside, the steady hum of conversation blends effortlessly with the scents of aromatic spices and simmering broths, setting a thoughtful and unhurried tone. Despite its popularity, there’s a warm casualness that invites lingering moments rather than rushed bites, making it a comfortable spot to dive into a plate of shared flavors with friends or family.
The dining rhythm here mirrors the gentle ebb and flow of daily life in Penang—busy yet welcoming, where familiar faces might exchange smiles across tables, and attentive staff move with quiet purpose. It’s the kind of place where the service, though occasionally caught in its own earnestness, reflects a genuine desire to look after every guest well.
Eastern Wishes’ soul is firmly rooted in a tapestry of Malay, Thai, and Nyonya influences, creating an experience where each dish reveals layers of culture and care. The food arrives as a mosaic of tastes and textures—from the brightness of a tangy tom yum soup to the rich, savory comfort of salted egg mantis prawns, all carried on a backdrop of fragrant herbs and subtle heat. These flavors feel grounded in tradition, yet refreshed with a lively, bold spirit that invites conversation and shared enjoyment.
Dining here often means savoring generous portions at a thoughtful pace, with dishes that encourage passing plates around and discovering familiar favorites anew. The atmosphere, especially during bustling mealtimes, hums with an authentic energy that promises more than just food—it offers a moment to connect, reflect, and belong.

This restaurant offers great taste of foods which is really meet my expectation. The price is consider okay and comfortable environment. Due to peak hour the waiters keep coming to collect dishes although we haven't finish our foods. Owner needs to educate them to collect dishes at right timing. Overall is great and highly recommended.

Eastern Wishes impresses with its flavorful Thai-influenced dishes that strike a bold and satisfying note for lovers of strong, vibrant flavors. The White Tom Yum is a standout, tangy, and well-balanced with the right amount of spice and aroma. The Salted Egg Prawn Mantis offers a crispy, rich indulgence with a generous coat of salted egg yolk that isn't overly heavy. Their Green Curry is beautifully done, fragrant, creamy, and comforting with tender meat and vegetables. To end the meal, the Tub Tim Krob (Thai red ruby dessert) is the perfect finish. It’s refreshing, lightly sweet, and soothing, especially after the bold flavors of the main dishes. Eastern Wishes delivers a satisfying and flavorful experience that blends comfort with Thai flair. A must-visit for those who enjoy hearty Southeast Asian cuisine with a Thai twist.

Came after seeing good reviews on 小红书- and it didn't disappoint! Reached during lunch hour and the place was packed, but luckily there were still seats for me. Food portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the taste is great too. Worth the visit!

Need to be earlier during dining hours, no reservation is allowed. Be prepared for long queue during peak hours. Food taste great and short waiting time after order placed.

After this restaurant moving from I avenue, never visit for long time. Today think of wish to try again at this location. Wow..when reached around 7 pm ++ there crowded . Alot ppl were waiting. We provided them number of pax and the waitress asked us to look at the menu and see what to order...not more than 15min we been called to go in. Might because of only 2pax? Easier get the seat? Overall it very good taste and the price also affordable price with the portion suitable with the price. No wonder there are so many family gathered dinner here. But the environment abit noisy, which expected. The serving of good also pretty fast, might also because we had ordered food before while waiting out seat. Should be visiting again.

Consistently yummy food, served efficiently with short waiting time even though the place is full house. Love it that the restaurant is so well managed.
